NOD32 Antivirus Software Leads in Proactive Detection

SAN DIEGO – June 16, 2006 – ESET, a global provider of security software for enterprises and consumers, today announced that its NOD32 Antivirus software earned Advanced+ Certification in the May 2006 Anti-Virus Comparative No. 10 test. The Advanced+ Certification is granted to antivirus products that demonstrate leading proactive detection capabilities with minimal false positives.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus achieved the highest score in proactive detection overall in a field of 15 competing products. In the “Proactive detection of new worms, DOS, Windows and other OS and script viruses/malware,” ESET led by an 11 percent margin over its next closest competitor, clearly demonstrating its strength in identifying emerging forms of malware across a variety of platforms. ESET won the “Proactive detection of all new samples used in the test,” category, scoring two to three times better than major brands. Of the two leaders in the “Proactive detection of new backdoors, Trojans and other malware” category, NOD32 had by far the fewest false positives, and took second place to a product with high false positives (source: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/report10.pdf)

“There is a wide range in detection abilities among antivirus vendors. NOD32 consistently ranks at the top of the list of the most proactive products across the tested malware categories,” said Andreas Clementi, Senior Tester, Anti-Virus Comparatives.

“The Anti-Virus Comparative Advanced+ Certification validates ESET’s leadership position in proactive protection, and we are proud to be one of only a handful of companies to receive this level of distinction in the last round of tests,” said Rick Moy, VP Marketing, at ESET. “Since the company’s inception, ESET has been laser focused on developing the most sophisticated technology for detecting new forms of malware, and we are very gratified to receive such independent recognition.”

ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 2.5 utilizes ThreatSense™ technology, a sophisticated detection system based on advanced heuristics, to proactively identify previously-unknown viruses, Trojans, spyware and phishing attacks in real-time. ThreatSense is built into NOD32’s unified scanning engine to provide comprehensive protection so users do not need to rely on additional point solutions for spyware and adware protection.

The AV Comparative is an independent testing organization based in Austria. The cited tests are designed to analyze proactive detection capabilities and evaluate which antivirus products can detect new forms of malware proactively, without the need for signature updates.
