November Malware Threats: INF/Autorun Stays on the Top The holiday season is here and ESET has put together golden tips for safer holiday shopping online. Even more holiday shopping will happen online this year than last and that means more scammers will be looking to do some shopping of their own, possibly at your expense. This might involve using your credit card and bank account to fund their gift-buying, or perhaps capturing and selling your personal information for some extra holiday cash. Here are some of the tips that Cameron Camp, Stephen Cobb and other ESET researchers have put together to help savvy cyber-shoppers avoid getting scammed while hunting for the best holiday deals online.

October Threats: Mac hit by a small Tsunami; removable media malware tops ESET Live Grid Statistics

Last month, ESET’s research team has discovered a new threat, which was originally designed for Linux, that now can infect Mac OS X. This is a modification of Linux code originally called Linux/Tsunami and currently detected as OSX/Tsunami.A. In more malware news, the removable media oldtimers like INF/Autorun and Win32/Conficker still appear on top spots both in Europe and globally. However, backdoor Dorkbot has moved up to number two spot worldwide with a 3.12% infection rate. Statistics are based on ESET Live Grid data, cloud-based reputation technology that utilizes malware related data from users of ESET solutions worldwide.

September Threats: PDF Trojan Appears on Mac OS X; Removable Media Malware Leads the Stats

For the month of September, INF/Autorun yet again proved its notorious position as malware frontrunner with a 6.49% infection rate globally and 5.42% infection rate in Europe. Second was Win32/Conficker with a 3.65% infection share worldwide, making it also the number three malware with 3.40% in Europe. Statistics are based on ESET Live Grid data, cloud-based reputation technology that utilizes malware related data from users of ESET solutions worldwide.
