ESET launched its new version of Online Scanner that is available for users free of charge. Compared to its predecessor, the scanner comes with significantly enhanced settings, anti-rootkit technology and compatibility with alternative web browsers.

ESET has been included in leading analyst firm Gartner’s May 2009 ‘Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms’, which addresses security technologies for the protection of corporate network endpoints for the SMB and large enterprise market.

Conficker remains the most often detected computer threat

Analysis of ESET’s ThreatSense.Net , a sophisticated malware reporting and tracking system, shows that the highest number of detections in April, with almost 8,70% of the total, was scored by the Win32/Conficker class of threat.

The antivirus community has been allerted to the activities of the botnet using the Win32/Hexzone.AP. trojan. It is a typical Trojan that reports to a command and control server using the HTTP protocol.

Conficker stopped connecting to domains

ESET detected a new variant of Conficker worm that is different to the previous ones in one major, yet surprising feature. It doesn’t contact any of the control domains, even though it originally operated with up to 50 000 domains a day.
