ESET @ CeBIT 2011: Thousands of visitors, cloud-computing and sneak peek of ESET’s next generation of products

HANNOVER, GERMANY - Cloud-security, preview of ESET Smart Security 5, and presentation of ESET Mobile Security for the Android platform took center stage at the world’s largest IT expo CeBIT 2011 which came to a close Saturday. Tens of thousands visitors passed and stopped by at ESET’s main stand at the exhibition. Sneak peek of ESET’s latest security solutions drew the attention  of visitors, press, and IT professionals.

Cloud-computing was the main topic for the CeBIT “Importance of Security” panel debate where Richard Marko, ESET CEO took part. He stressed the vulnerabilities of the cloud technology and the potential for targeted attacks against it. Standardization for cloud was also part of the discussion: "I agree with standardising cloud services, but it is not the complete solution in terms of security," said ESET CEO Richard Marko.  Marko was joined by five high-profile speakers from Gartner, Kaspersky Labs, G Data, POST AG, and AGT International during Wednesday’s debate.

“Our early warning system ThreatSense.Net is already a cloud-based system. Actually it was a pioneering technology in what can now be called “the cloud“ in malware protection. ESET Smart Security 5, which will be released later this year, will offer many improvements and new functionalities in this regard,” said Marko in  a recent media interview.

ESET did offer a glimpse of the next generation of its flagship security solutions, ESET Smart Security 5 announcing the release of the product‘s BETA version for public testing in the first half of 2011. The new version will include features like parental control and improved behavioral analysis technology, which will actively monitor operating memory for any suspicious behavior.

What’s more, just before the CeBIT exhibition kicked off, leading German consumer organization and magazine - Stiftung Warentest had recommended ESET Smart Security with its “good”  mark, as one of the best products currently available on the German market. In the consumer test it especially highlighted the fast Virus Signature updates against the latest threats and light footprint on system resources.

Over the five days, ESET’s main stand saw a lot of visitors - and it was not all about IT security. Starting last year, ESET is the sponsor of ESC Gaming, currently one of the best gaming teams in German eSports.  ESC gamers took over the ESET stand, entertaining and sharing gaming tips, especially with the younger visitors. For all these activities and more, ESET provided regular CeBIT updates on its Facebook fanpage.
