Conficker Is The Most Widespread
Throughout the month of October, ESET customers have encountered the Conficker worm the most. This fact is underscored by the results of ESET statistical reporting system ThreatSense.Net®.
Win32/Conficker with an 8.85% share of all detected threats remains the topmost threat. The order of other threats has not registered any significant shifts throughout October, with the top 5 remaining unchanged. Placing second, INF/Autorun denoting a mixture of trojans exploiting the autorun.inf function of the Windows OS placed second with 7.73%. Third place for the month of October goes to a family of trojans Win32/PSW.OnLineGames (7,29%) known for stealing data and assets of online gamers – specializing on games such as World of Warcraft. The No. 4 spot is taken by a family of trojans known as Win32/Agent specializing in stealing computer data and No. 5 goes to INF/Conficker denoting variants of Conficker exploiting the Windows OS autorun.inf function.

In the month of October, Conficker has accounted for the highest share of infiltrations in the Ukraine (28,08%), Russia (18,69%), Republic of South Africa (15,21%), Bulgaria (15,02%), Romania (14,32) and Serbia (9,46%). Global No. 2 - INF/Autorun has registered toward the top of the list in the United Arab Emirates (10%). No. 3 globally goes to Win32/PSW.OnLineGames that was dominant in Slovakia (7,02%), Poland (14,07%), Spain (9,61%), France (9,49%) and Israel (3,38%).
Other countries felt the onslaught of variants of Win32/Kryptik that denotes a group of malware such as rogue applications, including rogue antivirus programs. From a global perspective, Kryptic remained just under the TOP10, reaching high share of occurrence in Europe, especially in Austria (26,46%), Germany (17,39%), Czech Republic (15,73%), Sweden (13,55%), Norway (11,28%) and Great Britain (12,92%).
