ESET Announces Support for Windows Server 2008
ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced support for Microsoft's Windows Server 2008 platform, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 3. ESET’s line of award-winning security solutions, including the company’s flagship antivirus product, ESET NOD32 Antivirus, is currently available and ready to support Windows newest server product lines.
Windows Server 2008 is the latest release of Microsoft's server line of operating systems and incorporates the latest network, management and security technologies. Available in late February 2008, it is the successor to Windows Server 2003, released nearly five years earlier.
Windows Server 2008 is built on Windows Vista's NT 6.0 kernel and is reported to be Microsoft's most secure server operating system ever. Anti-malware software is a requirement for any server today and ESET's NOD32 Antivirus, with its proactive detection, represents the best fit for securing Windows Server 2008 from viruses, worms, rootkits, spyware, trojans and other threats.
“Windows Server 2008 represents a leap forward for Microsoft, and ESET's updated ThreatSense technology has kept pace allowing for the most proactive protection against evolving threats,” said Andrew Lee, ESET chief research officer. “In addition, our software functions with Windows Server 2008 Core, which is designed to provide a minimal attack surface. As the most proactive solution on the market for protecting against zero-day threats, ESET’s update support for Microsoft’s service packs allows our customers to remain protected from the latest Internet-borne attacks.”
Microsoft's service packs update their operating systems with all previously-issued patches, “hot-fixes” and configuration changes, sometimes introducing changes that disrupt antivirus software. ESET software presents no challenges for service pack upgrades and seamlessly integrates with the newest line of Windows Server products.
The current version of ESET's flagship security software, ESET NOD32 Antivirus, which has been shipping since December, 2007 has been tested with Windows Server 2008. Licensed customers may download this version from the ESET website.
Built on the award-winning ThreatSense® engine, ESET NOD32 Antivirus is a tightly integrated security solution that proactively detects and disables viruses, spyware, adware, phishing, rootkits and other Internet threats. It is the only antivirus technology that has not missed an “in-the-wild” virus in Virus Bulletin VB 100 testing over the past nine years, while producing only one false-positive during that time. It was also named “Best Antivirus Product” of 2006 and 2007 by AV-Comparatives.
ESET develops software solutions that deliver instant, comprehensive protection against evolving computer security threats. ESET pioneered and continues to lead the industry in proactive threat detection. ESET NOD32 Antivirus, its flagship product, consistently achieves the highest accolades in all types of comparative testing and is the foundational product that builds out the ESET product line to include ESET Smart Security. ESET Smart Security is an integrated antivirus, antispyware, antispam and personal firewall solution that combines accuracy, speed and an extremely small system footprint to create the most effective security solution in the industry. Both products have an extremely efficient code base that eliminates the unnecessary large size found in some solutions. This means faster scanning that doesn’t slow down computers or networks. Sold in more than 160 countries, ESET has worldwide production headquarters in Bratislava, SK and worldwide distribution headquarters in San Diego, U.S. ESET also has offices in Bristol, U.K.; Buenos Aires, AR; Prague, CZ; and is globally represented by an extensive partner network.
