ESET North America Announces Andrew Lee as CEO

ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced the appointment of Andrew Lee as chief executive officer of its North American operations. Lee succeeds ESET North America’s founding CEO, Anton Zajac, who will continue with the company as President. An industry veteran, Lee brings a unique perspective to his new role, combining the familiarity that he gained as chief research officer during his previous tenure at ESET with his extensive outside experience. In his new role, Lee will focus on leveraging ESET’s position as a trusted global internet security brand to expand ESET’s North American presence and identify new areas of growth for the company.

The move coincides with
today’s announcement of a broader restructuring that will elevate Richard Marko, the company's co-owner and previously the company‘s chief technological officer, to the role of ESET Global CEO.  Lee will report to Marko.

“ESET has reached an impressive point in its growth, amassing more than 100 million users worldwide and experiencing 278 percent growth in revenue over the past three years,” said Andrew Lee, ESET North America’s incoming CEO. “I am excited to be returning to ESET to be part of a company that is dedicated to making the Internet a safer place. ESET is already a trusted name in the security industry, and we can now begin to expand our focus towards driving research and innovation.”

Lee brings to ESET a unique blend of corporate experience and security expertise. Having served as chief research officer at ESET from 2004 to 2008, Lee was responsible for building ESET's reputation as a world class research organization. Most recently, Lee served as chief technology officer for K7 Computing, an antivirus software and Internet security company, where he was responsible for all aspects of K7's technology, leading acquisitions and bringing new products to the market.

Lee is a founding member of several of the most respected organizations in the antivirus industry, like AVIEN and AMTSO, an international non-profit association that focuses on addressing the global need for improvement in the objectivity, quality and relevance of anti-malware testing methodologies. A frequent speaker at industry conferences, ISC2 Seminars, AVAR, Virus Bulletin and EICAR, Lee is a widely published author of articles on antivirus and security and co-authored the “AVIEN Malware Defense Guide” with current ESET researcher David Harley. He holds an MSc degree in computer security from the University of Liverpool.

“Over the past decade, ESET has grown into one of the industry’s leading and most-trusted antivirus companies,” said Anton Zajac, founder and president, ESET North America. “With our impressive recent growth and the additions we have made in key areas such as research, this is the perfect time to add someone of Andrew’s caliber and experience to our team. I look forward to working closely with him to propel ESET to the next level of growth and accomplishment.”
