ESET Participates in Cybersecurity Workshop for Protecting Critical Infrastructure
Business and Public Sector Leaders Help Develop Framework for Reducing Risk of Cyber Attacks
ESET, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a 25-year track record of developing award-winning technology, today announced their sponsorship of the 3rd Cybersecurity Framework Workshop hosted by the National Institute of Standards (NIST) in San Diego from July 10-12.
ESET protects the devices, networks and systems that power and support the nation. This workshop brings together stakeholders and security thought leaders to gather input on incorporating existing standards, guidelines and best practices into the development of a voluntary "framework" for organizations to use to reduce the risk of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure. Critical infrastructure includes those industries vital to the nation's economy, security and health such as finance, energy, transportation, food and agriculture and health care.
“Helping to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure should be one of the core goals of the cybersecurity industry,“ said Andrew Lee, CEO, ESET North America. “Together with NIST, we we can put a practical and effective framework in place that will help keep our most vital industries safe from crippling attacks.“
In February of this year, president Barrack Obama signed an executive order on cybersecurity giving NIST the responsibility to work with the private sector to develop a voluntary framework. In addition, the executive order improves information sharing on cyber threats with private companies that provide or support critical infrastructure.
In San Diego, ESET joins critical infrastructure owners and operators, industry associations, individual companies and government agencies to actively assist NIST in the framework development process through hands-on participation in breakout sessions.
The San Diego event is the third in a series of workshops that have been held in different parts of the country and the only stop on the West Coast. Other areas to host events include Washington D.C. and Pittsburg, PA. NIST expects the workshops to result in a more detailed draft of the framework and a corresponding list of current standards, guidelines and practices. Every workshop includes ongoing work to identify important cybersecurity gaps. NIST expects to release the official preliminary framework after the final workshop scheduled for September.
The University of California, San Diego, and the National Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center will host the San Diego event.
