ESET Releases BETA Version of ESET Mobile Security for Android Smartphones and Tablets
ESET is expanding its portfolio of security solutions to protect devices running on the popular Android platform. This expands ESET's growing mobile security offerings, which also includes ESET Mobile Security for Symbian and Windows Mobile. The BETA version is available for download on the company's website.
According to recent research by Gartner, the worldwide sales of smartphones amounted to 297 million units last year, an increase of more than 72 percent from 2009. The Android operating system alone accounts for 22.7 percent of this total. Growth in the US market has been particularly strong, with comScore reporting that US sales of Android phones surpassed Apple's iPhone for the first time in December 2010. With its latest addition, ESET's Mobile Security solutions now protect more than 60 percent of smartphone users from emerging threats.
"As Android-powered smartphones and tablets become increasingly popular, the users often rely on them to store and process significant amounts of sensitive data, in many cases without realizing the risk of putting all that data on a small portable device. What's more, personal information intended to be kept private is continually shared or transferred wirelessly. Files, emails, text and multimedia messages deserve the highest level of protection in order to avoid misuse when placed in the wrong hands," says Miroslav Majtaz, Mobile Security Specialist at ESET. "ESET Mobile Security is our answer to rising security concerns in the mobile device sector," he adds.
