ESET Releases ESET Endpoint Security for Android-based Smartphones and Tablets
ESET, the leader in proactive protection, celebrating 25 years of its technology, today released its mobile security product, ESET Endpoint Security for Android, specifically designed for the contemporary business environment. ESET Endpoint Security for Android adds another layer of protection to the family of ESET Endpoint Solutions and features all the benefits made popular by the previous version of ESET Mobile Security Business Edition, supported by ESET Remote Administrator and now including ESET USSD Control tools. Along with Antivirus and Antispam features, ESET Endpoint Security for Android includes Anti-Theft, with the capability to locate the phone in case it goes missing, lock it remotely to prevent unauthorized access to company data and servers, and with an option to remotely delete all contacts, messages and data to prevent data leakage.
ESET Endpoint Security for Android offers connectivity to ESET Remote Administrator allowing the company’s IT administrators to check the status of smartphones used by employees, run on-demand scans, push security policies, and get an overview of the platforms, OS versions and other useful information they need to effectively manage Android devices just as they would with traditional endpoints. SMS/MMS Antispam and Call Blocking help reduce employee distractions, stop “phishing” and control data plan usage. The product is suitable for all Android-based devices including smartphones, tablets and e-Readers.
Another important feature in ESET Endpoint Security for Android is the ESET USSD Control tool, allowing the user to check potentially malicious phone numbers (USSD codes) before they are dialed (executed) by the default phone dialer. It also blocks malicious websites, when finding malicious codes before they are executed. ESET USSD Control makes sure all the data on an Android phone stays safe.
“At ESET, we are very aware of the critical infrastructure being deployed to the environment of mobile devices and how it needs to stand up to the daily test, blocking potential data loss and unwanted leaks,” said ESET Chief Technology Officer Palo Luka. “ESET Endpoint Security for Android brings a fast, smooth and comprehensive solution to protect these newly-important endpoints in the company network.”
According to the Online Security Brand Tracker (OSBT)*, a global research project, 1.1 billion users worldwide are connecting to the Internet using their smartphones, of whom 47 percent are using an Android-based device. In addition, tablets are increasingly popular with more than 492 million used as a device to connect to the Internet, of which 39 percent run an Android operating system. These portable devices store not only sensitive personal data, but also proprietary business information – similar to those stored on desktop workstations.
In addition, “worldwide sales of mobile phones to end users reached 419 million units in the second quarter of 2012, smartphone sales accounted for 36.7 percent of total mobile phone sales and grew 42.7 percent in the second quarter of 2012.”
According to the Gartner** analyst firm, Android is now installed on almost 65 percent of smartphones, making the protection of data more important than ever.
ESET Endpoint Security for Android employs the award-winning technology of ESET Mobile Security which, due to its ability to overwrite memory in its entirety, makes ESET Mobile Security, “one of few products that made data recovery after a remote wipe completely impossible,” according to AV-Comparatives. “ESET Mobile Security currently contains the most modern security components for smartphones,” concluded the independent testing authority in a recent report.
Moreover, the November 2012 internal AV-TEST*** confirms the protection quality and capability of ESET mobile security products. "We are impressed by ESET's very high detection rates of Android malware (99 percent and up) with no false positives occurring,” said Andreas Marx, CEO, AV-TEST. “There was no noticeable performance impact or battery drain either. I would like to congratulate ESET for their product's excellent results."
