ESET's Securing our eCity Team with CATCH to Apprehend Cyber Criminals and Promote Cyber Awareness

ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced that as part of its Securing Our eCity initiative, it has partnered with The Computer and Technology Crime High-Tech Response Team (CATCH), a multi-agency task force run by the San Diego County District Attorney that is designed to apprehend and prosecute criminals who use technology to prey on the citizens of San Diego, Imperial, and Riverside Counties in California. This partnership enables better education and protection of consumers and businesses from the growing threat of cybercrime, which the FBI ranks as the third-greatest threat to U.S. national security, after nuclear war and weapons of mass destruction.

"We recognize that cooperation between our organization, other high-tech task forces, and the private sector industry is critical to the success of CATCH," said Brendan McHugh, program director at CATCH. "By working with companies like ESET and the Securing Our eCity initiative, we are able to better assess risk and prioritize cybercrime targets in the region."

In addition to CATCH's participation in the Securing Our eCity initiative, ESET will also provide CATCH with technical expertise and support in identifying malicious threats and forecasting industry trends to support its cybercriminal investigation's through ESET's Global Threat Network.

Established in June 2000, CATCH joined a state and national network of task forces dedicated to battling criminals who attempt to exploit the technology industry or infrastructure for criminal gain. CATCH is comprised of investigators from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and benefits from vertical prosecutors assigned from all jurisdictions in which CATCH operates. This promotes the most thorough prosecution of the cybercrime cases and provides for rapid communication between all levels of government.

"With the threat landscape constantly evolving, ESET is dedicated to helping computer users understand and protect themselves against cybercrime," said Jeff Debrosse, North American research director at ESET. "This partnership with CATCH reinforces the importance of approaching cyber security from a holistic viewpoint, encompassing awareness, education and enforcement across our community."
