Brain is the first known boot virus. It appeared first in January 1986. The virus hooks interrupt INT 13h. When an attempt to read the original boot sector is made the virus will offer the original boot sector so that it stays “invisible”. The Brain virus is considered the first virus to use stealth techniques. It also has a harmless side effect – it changes the volume label to:
