Flame is a boot virus infecting diskettes boot sector and hard disk’s MBR. When system is loaded from an infected diskette the virus attacks MBR. It puts “hard” the original MBR to cylinder 1, side 25, sector 1. To the same address it puts also boot sector when infecting diskettes. That may cause corruption of files. The virus reserves 1 KB of memory, it hooks the interrupt INT13h and attacks all diskettes that are not write-protected. When attacking the MBR the virus saves the date of infection. In case that system is loaded from an infected diskette on a computer with infected MBR, and if the computer has been infected for at least a month, flames will be displayed on the screen and the disk will become illegible.
