Selected viruses, spyware, and other threats: sorted alphabetically
This virus has appeared at the Lehigh University and by that it was also given its name. Because of its destructivity it is very improbable that it was spread also outside of the place of its origin. The well-known discussion group virus-l on the Internet was formed in connection with this virus. Virus-l has been a very lively discussion group which also you can join. Lehigh is a resident virus attacking only the file COMMAND.COM. That file is attacked both on hard disk and on diskettes and it is done without increasing the length of the file. The virus writes itself into the area in which COMMAND contains zeroes. This way of attacking files was revolutionary at the time of its origin and was used also in later viruses. Upon infection the second and the third byte in a file are altered. The virus contains a reader in its body. When the value of 4 is reached with the original virus and the value of 10 in case of the other variant the first 32 logical sectors of the disk are being overwritten.
