Maltese Amoeba

This is a polymorphic, memory resident COM and EXE infector. In memory it reserves 4K for its use. It redirects the interrupt INT 21h and when a suitable file is executed or opened the virus attacks it. In the virus body is the following encrypted text:

AMOEBA virus by the Hacker Twins (C) 1991 This is nothing, wait for the release of AMOEBA II-The universal infector, hidden to any eye but ours! Dedicated to the University of Malta- the worst educational system in the universe,and the destroyer of 5X2 years of human life.

The virus tests the date and on March 15th and November 1st it overwrites sectors on disks and presents itself by means of a graphic effect on the screen after which the computer “freezes”. When the system is rebooted the following poem appears on the screen:

“To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild folwer Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in a hour.” THE VIRUS 16/3/91

After that the computer “freezes”.
