Satellite viruses

Satellite viruses use a special technique of infiltration utilizing various priorities of starting executable files. When the operating system receives a request to execute a program and there are more files of the same name but with different extensions in the directory, the operating program will execute the program with extension of higher priority. Files with extensions BAT are of highest priority, files with extension 3065>COM are of medium priority and files with extension 3123>EXE are of the lowest priority. The virus locates its body into the file of the same name but with higher priority extension. Among satellite viruses we also count viruses which locate their body into a file of any type and to the infected file they create a file of the same name with higher priority and thus ensure that the virus body will be read in and executed.
