Win32/Bagle.M is an internet worm spreading via e-mail. It also infects executable files and copies itself into shared directiories.
Size of its executable file is about 21 kB, the file is encrypted and compressed.

E-mail address of the message sender is chosen randomly from the following list:

<domain> is replaced by the domain part of the recipient's e-mail address.

Win32/Bagle.M can spread via shared folders by copying itself to any directory that contains string "share" in its name.
It uses the following filenames:

This worm is able to infect executable files by appending to them. Size of infected files grows by approximately 23 kB.

When the worm is executed, it copies itself into the %system% folder using the name "winupd.exe".
It also creates files winupd.exeopen, winupd.exeopenopen and winupd.exeopenopenopen. These are used for e-mail message creation.

Then the worm sets the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\winupd.exe. Its value is "%system%\winupd.exe".
Then Win32/Bagle.M deletes several entries from these registry keys:

Win32/Bagle.M contains a backdoor component - it listens on the TCP port 2556.

This worm deactivates itself on December 31st 2005.
