ESET Enters South Korean Market, Outlines Product Roadmap with Launch of Mobile Security for Android

Award-winning antivirus firm to help businesses and consumers address and mitigate cyber-threats

ESET, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a record of 10 years consecutive VB100 awards for its award-winning ESET NOD32® technology, today announced its expansion plans in the Korean internet security market. Businesses and consumers from this region will now have access to localized ESET security solutions as a result. With the launch of the completely rebuilt and redesigned ESET® Mobile Security for Android, this next generation mobile product offers improved scanning, Anti-Phishing module and completely redesigned user interface.

ESET advanced security solutions are trusted by businesses and consumers around the world for protection against today's most sophisticated cyber-attacks. ESET recognizes the need for businesses to protect themselves from a host of prevalent online and offline threats, and has a unique Endpoint Security solution that provides complete protection, combining proven antivirus and antispyware technology with a built-in firewall, web control and advanced remote administration tool.

Similarly, for customers using the Android OS, ESET Mobile Security offers improved scanning, Anti-Phishing module and a completely redesigned user interface. ESET Mobile Security for Android enables Android smartphone and tablet users to enjoy safer mobile browsing with protection from both real-world and digital threats.

This is particularly relevant in South Korea where mobile penetration is more than 100 percent and according to a recent OECD global report; in 2012** the country had the highest level of smartphone ownership in the world. Smartphones have evolved from a simple cell phone that made phone calls and sent SMS messages, into pocket computers. As other devices experience a similar evolutionary process, it will be possible to see malware designed to attack these targets. As the Java platform is able to function across various operating systems, it is a popular target for cybercriminals. According to a recent ThreatSense.Net report by ESET, a malicious JavaScript code embedded in HTML pages tops the list of computer threats in Korea, followed by a hacking software that performs actions that are not authorized by the user.

With a large number of users becoming increasingly dependent on their mobile devices to access the web or to access internet banking*, one of the main trends ESET has identified is an exponential growth of mobile malware.

“As the volume of personal information shifts towards online platforms and mobile devices, security threats which pervaded consumers’ personal computers have now moved to individual mobile devices,” says Parvinder Walia, Marketing Director, ESET.

“With the advances in technology, mounting volumes of data are the result of an increased usage of devices connected to the web - both in the personal and the enterprise space. Due to this trend, there is a demand for quality cyber protection not only in South Korea, but across the region.”

“The race between malware writers and antivirus companies is a testament to the increased availability of personal data, which is a result of the advances in technology. We are now pleased to offer South Korean consumers with an award-winning security solution to help mitigate malware both on personal and professional devices. With the help of our local partner, N32 Korea, we will be able to provide localized ESET solutions and support,” commented Kelvin Tan, Channel Manager, ESET.

“While the demand for quality internet protection grows, consumers and businesses stand at an intersection where accelerated risks can only be prevented by antivirus providers such as ESET.”
