High-performance protection: making the internet safer for you to enjoy with ESET Internet Security

Next story

Every day, we discover or hear about a new type of malware threatening to ruin our digital world. In recent years, ransomware has topped the list of new dangers, with research finding that ransomware is considered the most significant malware threat. This was followed by fileless malware – another continually evolving threat – and one that Microsoft issued a warning about just last month when yet another new type was discovered. And so, as cyber criminals become increasingly smarter and slicker in their approaches, the technologies and software that are designed to fight against them must also advance.

Protection technologies need to detect and neutralize all types of digital threats, including viruses, rootkits, worms and spyware, and to know how to foil malware-evasion techniques as well as block targeted attacks and exploits. That is why ESET has added several cutting-edge features to the latest version of its Home Windows products. This 13th iteration of ESET software, launching autumn 2019, offers several new, high-performance features with a focus on additional layers of protection.

Advanced Machine Learning

We have long known that machine learning is a powerful tool in the fight against cybercrime and, as a result, a new Advanced Machine Learning layer has been integrated into ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Internet Security and ESET Smart Security Premium, which improves detection capabilities. The machine learning layer has been cleverly designed not just to detect everyday threats but also to monitor for cases of never-seen-before or zero-day threats. The powerfulness of this engine comes from its unique abilities to properly extract features as well as to correctly classify unknown samples as clean, malicious or potentially unwanted.

Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS)

To complement the high-performing Advanced Machine Learning layer, the Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) has also been improved. It now offers the ability to customize the behavior of the system in greater detail with a focus on behavioral detection, giving users the option to specify rules for system registry and active processes to fine-tune personal device security. The improvements also allow ESET to monitor endpoint processes more thoroughly, improving the visibility of specific types of threats and allowing for better insights, research and mitigation.

The latest updates to ESET software demonstrate ESET’s dedication to providing cutting-edge detection technologies to keep people safe and able to explore the great World Wide Web with peace of mind. And that’s not all – in ESET’s mission to continually provide the best products on the market, there will be additional HIPS improvements on the way after this latest release! Watch this space.
