October 29, 2019ESET, a global leader in IT security, is proud to organize the 22nd Annual International AVAR Cybersecurity Conference. The conference will be held in Osaka, Japan, from the 6th to the 9th of November 2019, and revolve around the theme ‘Hacker versus counter-hacker: From retribution to attribution’.

With over 50 expert speakers from a wide range of global vendors, the conference will highlight some of the brightest minds in the cybersecurity field, exploring the power of malware and the techniques used to combat and prevent attacks. Just some of the topics to be explored include financially targeted malware, election security, and cryptocurrency.

ESET researchers Matthieu Faou and Thomas Dupuy will be in Osaka explaining newly uncovered campaigns, collectively called Operation Ghost and are attributed the Dukes, an infamous political espionage APT group that has compromised high-value targets and avoided public scrutiny.

Also, keynote speaker Dr. Paul Vixie, a pioneer in internet security and CEO of Farsight Security, will be exploring the benefits and hazards of non-local DNS resolution in his address. Having invented the monitoring and filtering capabilities now used by nearly all DNS services, Dr. Vixie is perfectly positioned to dissect the history of DNS and to outline the importance of understanding your DNS choices and the implications of them.

In addition, the conference will delve into some of the most pressing threats to Japan and the wider APAC region, including an address from Yoshihiro Ishikawa, a member of the Cyber Emergency Center of LAC. Ishikawa will reveal new information about the Center’s findings on cyberattack incidents regarding cryptocurrency and the implications of such attacks.

“It is an honor to organize a conference such as AVAR and to play a role in bringing together some of the leading minds in the cybersecurity field. The AVAR conference continues to build upon the strong foundations we are laying for IT security in Japan whilst continuing to explore the development of Japan’s cybersecurity threat landscape. ESET is passionate about ensuring that businesses and consumers around the world are adequately protected and informed, whatever region they may live in,” said Richard Zwienenberg, senior research fellow at ESET.
