July Threats: Global Top 3 in Firm Hold – INF/Autorun, Win32/Conficker and Win32/Sality

For the month of July INF/Autorun was the most wide-spread type of threat both in Europe (5.27%) and globally (6.51%). The malware stats are based on ESET’s cloud-based malware collection system. Another oldtimer Win32/conficker ranked as the most wide-spread malware for the last year reaching a global infection rate of 3.88% (3.12% in Europe). Win32/Sality remained in the third spot second month in a row globally (2.03%). Third place in Europe went to HTML/IFrame.B.Gen (3.05%).

Just a short time ago a new dangerous variant of a trojan detected by ESET as Win32/Delf.QCZ started to spread via Facebook. The malware has the capability to deactivate AV protection that is not up-to-date. A trojan horse is a type of malaware that pretends to be a useful program, but in fact is a malicious software with harmful aims. ESET security solutions effectively defect and remove this type of malware.

Threats in June: INF/Autorun Top Threat in Europe and the World; Survey finds the Social Networking/Cybersafety Disconnect

INF/Autorun, according to the statistical information from ThreatSense.Net, ESET’s cloud-based malware collection system, was the most wide-spread malware both in Europe (5.56%) and globally (6.72%) for the month of June. Running second is Win32/Conficker: in Europe 2.77%, globally 6.72%.

Threats in May: Playstation Breach – Password Reset Attack Looming; INF/Autorun – Top-ranking Global and European Malware

INF/Autorun, according to the statistical information from ThreatSense.Net, yet again wins the spot of the top most ranked global threat in May 2011 with 6.58 percent of occurrence. The second most wide-spread malware globally turned to be, for several months now, Win32/Conficker with a 3.61 percent share, followed by yet another old-timer Win32/PSW.OnlineGames with 1.92%.
