ESET to highlight groundbreaking research findings at Black Hat 2017

Next story

This year at Black Hat (July 22–27, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV), the world’s leading information security event, IT security firm ESET will lead two important sessions.

The first is ESET’s groundbreaking original discovery of the Industroyer malware, which is one of the only known malware threats that directly targets electrical substation switches and circuit breakers. Anton Cherepanov, ESET senior malware researcher and author of “Win32/Industroyer: A new threat for industrial control systems,” will be joined by Robert Lipovsky, ESET senior malware researcher, along with executives from Dragos on the Black Hat main stage.

The other session will cover how in the wake of massive cyberattacks – like WannaCry (WannaCryptor) and Petya (NotPetya, Diskcoder.C) – and the never-ending revelations of nation-state hacking, businesses and individuals can take action to protect and defend themselves. Part of that means understanding how to evaluate the bold claims by vendors that are eager to capitalize on the growing amount of money spent on cybersecurity each year. ESET CTO Juraj Malcho will discuss the “post-truth plague” that confronts (and confuses) businesses and consumers, and how it ultimately does more harm than good.
