Data Protection Made Easy: A Framework for SMBs

Cyberattacks and data breaches have a potentially devastating impact on SMBs—especially given the increase in complex regulatory requirements for data protection and privacy, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework provides a common sense approach which SMBs can use to implement a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy to better manage and reduce cybersecurity risk and support their data security and privacy compliance efforts.

This guide, developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is based on existing standards, guidelines and best practices for organizations to better manage and reduce cybersecurity risk.

Lawrence Miller, CISSP and the author of “Data Protection for Dummies,” among numerous other guides, will explain how to use the framework to secure your business, meet privacy requirements and protect your customers. Topics will include:

  • The 5 framework components: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover
  • Creating and implementing a cybersecurity strategy
  • Containing and mitigating breaches via effective incident response
