ESET Science Award

Our commitment to science beyond cybersecurity is best illustrated by the ESET Science Award which recognizes outstanding individuals in Slovak science. The ESET Foundation presents the award to highlight the achievements of Slovak scientists and to promote the status of Slovak science internationally.

Technology and science

We are at the forefront of cybersecurity research. Hundreds of ESET experts in 13 research and development centers worldwide anticipate and counter new threats to ensure we’re one step ahead and can protect the latest technological progress, in all fields of science.

Charpentier is a French researcher in microbiology, genetics and biochemistry. In 2020, Charpentier and her collaborator, Jennifer Doudna, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for the development of a method for genome editing" through CRISPR.

Marko, ESET’s CEO since 2011, invented an AI-based Advanced Heuristics method in 2002, which is used in the malware DNA detection technology that sits at the core of ESET detection today. He is on the board of the ESET Foundation supporting education, innovation and science.

Sir Brian is an English musician, astrophysicist, photographer, and co-founder of the band Queen. He was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2005 for "services to the music industry and for charity work".

Dr. Goodall is an English ethologist and conservationist. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme, and she has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues. In April 2002, she was named a UN Messenger of Peace.

Program

Academic program

A select number of universities and science academies across Slovakia will host a lectures by Nobelists, scientists, astronauts, technologists and artists.

City program

The host city of the festival’s seventh edition is Bratislava and the streets of the city will live and breathe a festival of science and arts for the general public.

Conference

As in the previous years, the seventh Starmus Festival will welcome to the stage world-class scientists, artists and astronauts to share breakthrough discoveries, reflect upon pressing questions and inspire new generations of scientists and explorers.

Concert with Stephen Hawking Award ceremony

An a-list concert will be part of the program, including the ceremony for the Stephen Hawking Award for science communication. The Stephen Hawking Science Medal is a prestigious award which recognizes the merit of popular science on an international level. Past recepients include Dame Jane Goodall, Sir Brian May, Buzz Aldrin, Brian Eno and many others.
