Celebrating a decade long journey

By Parvinder Walia, President of Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ), ESET

Today marks a milestone for ESET as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of establishing ESET's regional headquarters in Singapore. From humble beginnings of working out of Starbucks to our first office in Robinson centre, to where we are now at the heart of the city, we've grown leaps and bounds in the last decade. As one of the pioneer staff of this office, this milestone holds a special place in my heart.

When we opened the Singapore office ten years ago, our main objective was 'adding value' to our channel partners as well as our global headquarters. I am humbled to say that we have achieved that through the support and hard work of the team. Today we are ranked among the top four endpoint security software brands in APAC (source: IDC) and have gained recognition and awards for various industry accolades.

As I reflect on our journey - what truly stands out is our culture - which has been the single most important ingredient in our growth story. Our fearless approach, passion and willingness to take initiative have been an integral part of our culture. Over the years, we have cultivated a powerful family-oriented culture that strongly encourages nurturing of internal talent, diversity and equal opportunities for all.

Aside from that, our focus on building long-standing relationships has been instrumental in our growth story. We are a channel-focused business and could not have gotten to where we are today without the trust and support from our channel partners. Our channel partners are an extension of our team, which has allowed us to deeply understand the market nuances and opportunities in the region. With their support, we have significantly expanded our business as well as brand presence in key markets as well as opened the door to new markets.

In the past decade, we have built a solid foundation for the business in the region. We are now well-positioned to deliver 'real value' to our partners and customers, and drive the business to even greater heights, as cybersecurity takes centre stage in an increasingly digital world.

Since early 2020, digital infrastructure usage has surged as the global pandemic has kept billions of people at home, dependent on the internet for work, school, and play. This meant that businesses and consumers are faced with an unprecedented situation where the security paradigm has dramatically changed. The cybersecurity industry is at an inflection point as there has been a fivefold increase in cybersecurity attacks since the start of the pandemic.

Looking ahead, we have a huge responsibility to help build a more secure digital world where everyone can progress and be protected. But I am confident that we are up for the challenge as we move into the next phase of our journey. We are part of something big, it's only just the beginning!
