How To Have a Worry-Free Mother's Day

Mum’s deserve a break. Sometimes it’s not easy to get a chance to relax when you have a young family, especially in our current fast moving world, right? Mobile or handheld devices that access the web is just another thing parents have to worry about. I have a 15-month-old and he’s already managed to create havoc on Mum’s mobile phone!

That’s why we’ve come up with 4 ways to childproof your devices and help Mum have a worry-free (and tech-disaster-free) Mother’s Day.

1. Lock the screen.

Young kids can access your phone or device and cause major havoc if they are not being monitored, like deleting apps or calling people in your contact list. To avoid annoying or embarrassing mishaps set a password or passcode for the device.

2. Password protect App purchases and disable in-app purchases.

There have been plenty of cases where kids have downloaded age inappropriate apps or have made numerous and costly in-app purchases

Whether it is a shared family device or your child’s own device, disable in-app purchases and enable password authentication for app purchases or downloads.

3.  Install protection.

This one applies mainly to Android phones: we suggest installing the Free ESET Mobile Security for Android app so you can keep your child’s device safe from viruses and other malicious software.

The next app you’re going to want to install is the Free ESET Parental Control for Android app — This app will make managing their devices VERY easy. With it you can:

  • Manage which apps they can download and use
  • Set time limits for when they can use their devices
  • Block age-inappropriate websites (Premium feature)

It’s an easy and child-friendly all-in-one family system which can help parents build a respectful relationship with their kids while keeping them safe too.

4.  Find them, or their lost device.

It’s a fact of life that kids get lost and lose things. Some kids are not old enough to be expected to take reasonable care of themselves, let alone their devices. To remedy this you can enable some features to locate them or their phone.

If your child has an iPhone you can enable Apple’s Find my iPhone feature using geo-location if ever it was lost, and if you want to find them and monitor or track their location you can enable Find My Friends.

For Android devices, you can install the Free Android Device manager which lets you locate your kid’s phone associated with your Google account

If the phone is close by, but you still can’t find it—perhaps it was stuffed into the fridge, under a couch or left in some clothing—these apps allow you to make the phone ring so hunt it down and pinpoint its exact location. Very handy!
