2017 ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship winner announced

ESET®, a global pioneer in IT security, announced today that it has awarded the second annual ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship to Sarah Samora, a recently accepted software engineering major at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She will receive a $5,000 scholarship to put toward her education, and help fulfill her goal of a career in information security.

Samora demonstrated a superb academic record, and aspirations to dedicate a future career to helping secure the “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices and developing new encryption methods to help keep data in transit safe.

The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship was designed to encourage and empower women -  an underrepresented segment of talent in the industry - pursue a career in cybersecurity.

“Women bring different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving, and we believe that diversity and equality will help move our industry forward,” said Celeste Blodgett, vice president of human resources at ESET. “Sarah is passionate, hungry and eager to help advance the cybersecurity industry. We are thrilled to help enable her career path and nurture her personal mission to help protect others and make the world a safer place.”

The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is one of the many initiatives ESET has created to support diversity in the workplace and cybersecurity education. ESET helps host the annual Cyber Boot Camp, and the ESET research team regularly speaks and writes on the topic of early cyber education and diversity in the tech industry.   

About the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship

The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship was launched in 2016 to help support and encourage women that aspire to have a career in information security. Applicants must be a female enrolled in or accepted to an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the United States with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. In 2017, applicants were asked to complete a two-part essay and include a letter of recommendation. Judging was conducted by the ESET Scholarship Selection Committee.
