ESET provides leading protection against APT attacks: Recognised as a Top Player in Radicati Advanced Persistent Threat Protection Market Quadrant 2021

Next story

Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups are responsible for some of the most infamous campaigns targeting organisations all over the world. From Turla’s Crutch backdoor to InvisiMole’s espionage toolkit, it seems these threats are becoming more prolific and more sophisticated than ever. With the steady stream of APT attacks making headlines, organisations are reminded of just how important it is to beef up their defences.

In a new report by Radicati, 12 leading cybersecurity vendors from the Advanced Persistent Threat Protection segment of the security market were put to the test. More than being a single antivirus or anti-malware solution, APT Protection is classified as “a set of integrated solutions for the detection, prevention and possible remediation of zero-day threats and persistent malicious attacks.” APT solutions include sandboxing, endpoint detection and response (EDR), reputation networks (like ESET LiveGrid®) and threat intelligence.

The report uses Radicati's Market Quadrant to position vendors based on two main criteria:

  • Functionality – which measures the breadth and depth of features in a vendor’s solution.
  • Strategic Vision – which assesses the strategic direction of each vendor, including understanding of customer needs and ongoing innovation.

In 2021, ESET has once again been recognised as a Top Player in APT Protection, scoring highly in both functionality and strategic vision. ESET was one of just six vendors to achieve the distinction, with other cybersecurity providers occupying the Specialist quadrant – scoring lower in both criteria.

Radicati describes Top Players as “the current market leaders with products that offer both breadth and depth of functionality, as well as possess a solid vision for the future. Top Players shape the market with their technology and strategic vision.” The research body also explains that “Vendors don’t become Top Players overnight. As companies reach this stage, they must fight complacency and continue to innovate.”

Radicati particularly praised ESET Enterprise Inspector as offering strong EDR capabilities. ESET’s advanced security portfolio – capable of mitigating against advanced targeted attacks by even the most sophisticated APT actors – includes a wide array of cutting-edge solutions, such as ESET Threat Intelligence and ESET Dynamic Threat Defense. Additional capabilities include monitoring of events, such as script executions, manipulation of files or process injections, and remediation via network isolation of compromised endpoints. ESET also offers a single-pane-of-glass remote management dashboard (available in the Cloud or on-premises) for computers, servers, mobile devices and virtual environments, allowing for increased visibility of threats, users and quarantined items across an entire organisation.

ESET’s expertise in researching APT groups is demonstrated by its contributions to the MITRE ATT&CK knowledge base. Throughout 2020, ESET researchers contributed four new entries and five extensions to the globally accessible knowledge base.

Juraj Malcho, ESET’s Chief Technology Officer, commented: “Our continued recognition as a Top Player by Radicati is testament to our mission in making technology safer for everyone. We are extremely proud to have ranked so highly for our functionality and vision in this report focussing on detection and response capabilities. ESET remains dedicated to constantly innovating and improving our cutting-edge security software in order to protect against the ever-evolving threat landscape.”
