SAN DIEGO—March 30, 2016 —ESET®, a global pioneer in proactive digital protection for more than two decades, announced today the recipient of its first ever Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship.
Chelsie Power was presented the 2016 ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 at the San Diego Police Foundation’s annual Women in Blue luncheon, an event that awards women in law enforcement and celebrates female leaders in the community.
“With this scholarship, ESET is taking another step forward in its longtime support of women in technology,” said Celeste Blodgett, VP of Human Resources at ESET North America. “Chelsie is an outstanding example of the next generation of talented cyber defenders, and we are thrilled to support her as she pursues her cybersecurity higher education.”
A recent report by Raytheon and NCSA found that the majority both male and female students are not being exposed to the possibility of jobs in this industry. And what’s more, the percentage of women in information security jobs is declining. ESET is an advocate of exposing a diverse set of students to cyber careers early on, while also providing resources to help with cybersecurity experience and education attainment.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive this scholarship from ESET,” said Power. “Not only is it helpful financially, it is validating to know my hard work is being appreciated. I believe my role is to protect people, their assets, and their families. I also hope to inspire other women, especially minorities, to pursue technical careers even though the path ahead may seem difficult.”
