First-ever 10-year deal demonstrates ESET’s leadership in proactive threat protection

ESET®, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced that the Ontario Ministry of Education (OME) has again selected ESET NOD32 Antivirus software to protect the more than 400,000 networked computers in its classrooms for the next ten years. As the first 10-year deal of its kind, the partnership represents the OME’s trust in ESET’s industry-leading protection and its commitment to protecting the approximately 126,000 teachers and 2 million students that now use its computers daily.

“ESET and the Ontario Ministry of Education have enjoyed a working relationship for the past seven years and I’m very proud that we will be protecting so many teachers and students for another decade,” said Iva Peric-Lightfoot, Country Manager, ESET Canada. “It is essential that we work with our customers and partners to continue to develop and improve ways to protect our users from online threats.”

SHI, an ESET partner, brokered the multi-year deal for the OME.  With a strong focus on supporting the growing Education vertical, SHI understands the OME’s needs to secure their classroom devices with a premium security solution from ESET.

Technology and threats to the classroom have evolved to a point where desktop security now calls for software that not only includes antivirus protection, but also guards against other emerging forms of malware, including spyware, adware, trojans, rootkits, keyloggers and phishing attacks.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus represents the third product of its kind licensed by the OME and will be utilized to protect the Windows workstations and Windows file servers at approximately 5,000 publicly-funded English and French schools across the province of Ontario, in accordance with the directions set by the provincial government. With a positive rating of 75 percent from a recent survey of users across the 72 school boards, ESET NOD32 Antivirus will continue to provide a secure solution for the entire range of Windows operating systems while, at the same time, making a minimal impact on system performance. The centralized management tool also allows technicians to manage updates and deploy the product quickly and effectively.

ESET products are powered by ThreatSense® technology, an advanced heuristics engine that enables proactive detection of malware not covered by even the most frequently updated signature-based products. Unlike traditional solutions, ESET NOD32 Antivirus decodes and analyzes executable code in real-time, using an emulated environment. By allowing malware to execute in a secure virtual world, ESET is able to clearly differentiate between benign files and even the most sophisticated and cleverly-disguised malware.

Editor’s note: The school board has direct responsibility for keeping its schools’ computers protected from viruses, spyware, adware and other emerging online threats. School boards can decide to install this provincially-licensed product or use any other product that meets their needs.
