This award-winning report, based on a discovery made in ESET’s Montreal, Canada Research Lab, detailed ESET’s analysis of a set of malicious programs that were used together to infect massive amounts of servers and desktop computers. ESET researchers Olivier Bilodeau, Pierre-Marc Bureau, Joan Calvet, Alexis Dorais-Joncas, Marc-Etienne Léveillé and Benjamin Vanheuverzwij analyzed a set of malicious programs that were used together to infect 25,000 servers. ESET researchers found that over half a million visitors to legitimate websites hosted on servers compromised by Windigo were being redirected to an exploit kit every day.

This award honors the late Péter Ször, a long-serving member of the VB advisory board and one of the industry's brightest researchers.  “It is truly a great honor to win the first ever Péter Ször award,” said Pierre-Marc Bureau, researcher at ESET. “Péter was an industry staple and we always admired and followed his career very closely.  We are proud that our hard work around Operation Windigo was recognized in such a prestigious way.”

In September, ESET won its 86th VB100 award making 2014 the 11th consecutive year that ESET has been recognized by the organization. The VB100 award is well-regarded in the anti-malware community due to the stringent testing requirements. Tested solutions must detect 100 percent of malware samples listed as 'In the Wild' by the WildList Organization and generate no false positives when scanning a set of clean files.

ESET has received more VB100 awards than any other anti-virus vendor in the market. This record confirms ESET’s level of consistency and underscores ESET‘s dedication to its customers and commitment to superior products.
