The panel called “Two Steps Ahead: National Cyber Security Awareness Month Hill Kickoff: Empowering Users to Protect Themselves” discussed the importance of cybersecurity and detailed what individual and businesses can do to help keep their digital lives protected.

Cobb, who heads up cybersecurity research for IT security firm ESET, joined other guests from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Representatives, as well as fellow panelists Randy Vickers, director of information security of the U.S. House of Representatives; John Krebs, DPIP identity theft program manager of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission; Scott Montgomery, vice president, chief technical strategist at Intel Security; and Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance.

“Cybercrime is spiraling out of control, and we need to all work together to stop it,” said Cobb. “National Cyber Security Awareness Month brings attention to the cyber issues that really impact everyone from individuals to businesses.”

NCSAM - celebrated every October - was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online. Since its inception under leadership from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the NCSA, NCSAM has grown exponentially, reaching consumers, small and medium-sized businesses, corporations, educational institutions and young people across the nation. This year marks the 13th year of NCASM. ESET has been a long-time supporter of NCSA, and will be participating in various events and educational initiatives throughout the month.
